There's bad guys and then there's your cliched bad guy. Personally, I think it's more fun to read when you're not rolling your eyes at the absurdity. Here, he was your bad guy but just enough to wreak havoc and cue the ensuing hurt/comfort factor. And that's what we wanted to read, right? ;-)
